Introduction. The concept of temporal average and ensemble average. Nature of turbulence. Statistical tools and applications to turbulence. Parameter correlation and spectral analysis. Differential equations governing turbulent flows. The scales of turbulent motion. The energy cascade and Kolmogorov hypotheses. The turbulence closure problem. Wall flows – turbulence characteristics in wall regions and layers.
