Course content:

Introduction to random variables, mean value, variance, probability density function, cumulative distribution function, method of moments, method of maximum likelihood, Monte Carlo simulation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing. Joint probability distributions, definition of a stochastic process, stationarity and ergodicity, autocovariance and autocorrelation functions, cross-covariance and cross-correlation functions, short- and long-range dependencies. First Order Second Moment (FOSM) propagation of uncertainty, linear models for statistical estimation and prediction. Application of the developed concepts and methods to hydrologic series.
