Course content:
The importance of probability and statistics in Civil Engineering. Basic probability theory and random variables. Mean, higher-order moments, covariance and correlation. Useful discrete and continuous distributions. Descriptive statistics. Sampling distributions. Confidence intervals. Topics of measurement theory. Testing hypotheses. Simple linear regression and correlation. Laboratory use of the statistical package Minitab.
