Course content:

  1. Introduction to Geodesy and applications of Geodesy in various fields of Civil Engineering.
  2. Fundamental concepts and history of Geodesy.
  3. Current trends.
  4. Basic surveying instruments and procedures for the measurement of distances, angles and height differences -tapes, theodolites and tacheometry, levels and spirit leveling, electronic distance measurements.
  5. Introduction to the theory of measurements and of errors.
  6. Laws of error propagation.
  7. Accuracy and precision, statistics, error ellipses, implications for planning and evaluation of field surveys.
  8. Introduction to the theory of Least Squares and to network adjustments.
  9. Field applications.
