Building Physics and Construction Technology Laboratory<\/h2><\/div>

The Building Physics and Construction Technology Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Patras, was established in 2024 (Government Gazette 4263\/19.07.2024, Part B). The Laboratory covers the following academic fields: (a) the construction technology of building projects and the detailed investigation of the hygrothermal behavior of building envelope elements,(b) the study and application of building physics in building constructions (regarding heat and moisture transfer, ventilation and airtightness, lighting, acoustics, etc.), (c) the energy design of buildings with the goal of\u00a0 optimizing performance in terms of energy requirements, comfort conditions, and environmental impact, (d) the study of the impact of climate (urban microclimate and broader climate conditions in the context of climate change) on the energy performance of constructions and comfort conditions in the built environment, e) the sustainable design of open outdoor spaces with the aim of achieving thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Main activities of the Laboratory include<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teaching and supervision of student projects in the following undergraduate courses:
\n1) Building Construction
\n2) Building Physics
\n3) Energy Design of Buildings<\/p>\n

Laboratory equipment
\nThe Laboratory is equipped with air temperature\/relative humidity sensors, a thermal camera, pyranometers, portable anemometers and photometers, instruments for measuring the specific heat of materials (k-meter) and the thermal transmittance coefficient of building elements, as well as advanced computational tools for studying the hygrothermal behavior of buildings, energy simulation using dynamic energy simulation methods, visual comfort simulation, and simulation of microclimatic conditions in outdoor spaces \uf0b7 Scientific projects<\/p>\n
