Ierotheos Zacharias worked as a researcher at the Institute of Inland Waters of the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (1999-2005), as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor (2005-2014) at the University of Ioannina and as an Associate Professor (2014-2017) at the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management of the University of Patras. In 2017 he was elected Associate Professor and since 2019 Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras.
He is the author or co-author of 64 articles in international scientific journals (Scopus), 115 articles in proceedings of international and national scientific conferences, about 46 technical reports, as well as university lectures on the courses he teaches at the University of Patras. He has been the scientific coordinator of 24 research projects, funded by public and private institutions in Europe and Greece and a member of the research team of 30 other research projects. He holds two Patents, is a reviewer in 17 international scientific journals and a member of international and Greek scientific committees and associations. Citations of published scientific work (Scopus) about 2,070 and H-index: 23 (Scopus).
His main research interests are in the areas of environmental engineering, inland and coastal water pollution and remediation, hydrodynamic and ecological numerical models as well as water resources management.
