Dr. Zoi Christoforou holds a diploma in civil engineering (National Technical University of Athens – NTUA), an MSc in transportation engineering (Université Paris-Est, FR), an MSc in urban planning (NTUA, GR), a PhD in civil engineering (NTUA) and a PhD in transportation engineering (Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, FR). She has served as research associate or lecturer of various universities and research institutes across Europe: University of Piraeus (2006-2008), NTUA (2008-2010), Technical University of Athens (2010-2011), Ecole française d’électronique et d’informatique (2013-2017), ESIEE Paris (2018-2019). She was nominated Assistant Professor at Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées – Enpc (FR) at 2013 where she also served as deputy director of the Department “City, Environment, Transportation” for a two-year period. Moreover, she collaborates with Ecole Polytechnique de Paris – X (FR), Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne – EPFL (CH), and the “Engineering of Surface Transportation networks and Advanced Computing” Laboratory of the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development, and networks (IFSTTAR). Currently, she holds an Assistant Professor position in the area of transportation engineering and infrastructure at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Patras. She has served as professor of courses related to statistics and big data, traffic management and engineering, road safety, modeling and simulation of public transit systems.
She has participated in 15 research projects and served as principal investigator in 3 of them. These projects were all funded by either public or private European entities. She is the author of 4 theses, co-author of 9 books, about 20 scientific articles in refereed international journals and books, over 30 articles in refereed international and national conference proceedings, and of 5 conference abstracts. She serves as a reviewer of about 20 international journals and conferences, as an evaluator of research proposals for international institutes, and she is member of international and Greek scientific associations and panels. She co-supervises 2 PhD theses and has supervised over 50 MSc theses. Also, she has participated in the scientific and organizing committees of over 10 scientific events and conferences.
Her most recent research interests include the areas of simulation of Autonomous Vehicles, modeling of the impact of human factors on traffic and traffic safety, analysis of soft mobility and micromobility systems (pedestrians, bikes, e-scooters).
